Tourmaline has one of the widest color ranges of any gem. The gem’s chemical composition directly influences its colors. Because of its broad range of color, tourmaline has been frequently confused for other gems. One of the earliest accounts of the gem was in California at the end of the nineteenth century. Today, the gem is regarded to have healing properties and improve energy by rejuvenating the spirt, mind and body. Tourmaline is a birthstone for October and the gem for the 8th anniversary.
