Australian zircon is the oldest known mineral on earth, estimated to date back at least 4.4 billion years. For centuries, colorless zircon was confused for diamond because of its brilliance. Other colors of zircon include reddish brown, yellow, green, blue, and gray. Blue zircon in particular was popular during the Victorian age. Zircon is a birthstone for December.
